Ushering in the Open Edition Art Revolution

Checks are Open Edition Art projects by Jack Butcher of Visualize Value. Jack is a marketing, culture, and communications genius that has been helping companies and organizations better understand how to communicate value to their stakeholders.

Checks started off as an organic experiment after Twitter announced that anyone can get a blue check on Twitter if they pay $8/month. This put forward the question of - if everyone is verified then is anyone verified? Furthermore, Jack wanted for our collective culture to question provenance, verifiability, and the entire idea of notability and who decides notability. Checks VV started off as a 16K collection of identical digital art pieces that displayed 64 Checks with diverse colour backgrounds. One of the innovative aspects of the collection was that the metadata would change every several days with the constraints that whatever image was displayed, must be comprised of 64 Checks. Then Jack announced that collectors could migrate their Check VV to a static image of 64 Checks with varied colours via a custom tool his team created. This collection is Checks Originals and collectors of Originals can then burn these for more rare Checks that have fewer Checks.

A collector could continue to burn Originals (while creating new Checks) until they ended up with an Originals with a single Black Check - the ultimate grail. What Jack has created is masterpiece in culture, art, philosophy, blockchain, media, and communication. We are in the early innings of Checks and the true impact of this Project will not be known for years.
